Two years in the Planning

Monday 18th July marks an important day for the Gwili Railway.

We are, at last, commencing work on the development at Abergwili Junction. It has taken a small and dedicated team nearly two years of planning to reach this stage.

Phase One of the project will see the construction of the access road, car park, and the foundations of the Dan Do Storage shed, with the shed itself to follow as phase 2 in the spring of next year.

The project has been assisted by the award of a Community Asset Development Grant to the value of 150k, which is a European Regional Development Fund Grant awarded via the Welsh Government.

Further funds have been provided by the Gwili Railway Company, Gwili Railway Preservation Society and Welsh Railway Trust. We offer sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to the various appeals, which has allowed us to get to the start line.

Equally the “in kind” time of some key individuals have saved funds at the design stage and have allowed us to use these hard won funds for the physical works.

We look forward to working with our contractor, Ian Davies Plant in delivering this project with the aim of starting all trains from Abergwili Junction by Easter 2023.

During the project the site will be strictly off limits to all volunteers and members of the public. As such  this blog will act as a conduit  throughout the project to keep you all up to date.
